Telehealth for Consumers

An increasing number of telehealth tools are becoming available to consumers in order for them to play an active role in their health care. More and more consumers are using the Internet to find health information. In response to this consumer drive for involvement in their health care, many proactive health care institutions have researched and implemented telehealth tools for consumers. iTelehealth is a strong proponent for consumer-based health care, and has participated in many different initiatives to get telehealth to the consumer.

Some of our past work is highlighted below:

HEC
Health E Control (HEC) was a Congressionally funded program of research with a focus on consumer-based healthcare, and empowerment of the consumer to make wise health decisions by using Internet-based technologies and information tools. To this end, health care education kiosks were placed in two separate medical centers and evaluated by patients for their worth.

Aframe Digital
Itelehealth is partnering with AFRAME Digital to provide research, consulting and clinical development, in the development and testing of a wearable monitor for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This monitor is used by military veterans to monitor the onset of PTSD episodes. The ground-breaking research allows health care consumers to recognize bodily cues, giving them the information they need to empower them in their health care decision-making.

Telenursing for Remote Cardiac Rehab

This significant qualitative research effort evaluated the feasibility and outcomes of a remote, home-based cardiac rehabilitation program for post-surgery Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) patients using current telehealth technologies to conduct follow up visits rather than usual in-person nurse visits. The innovative program consisted of a new way of delivering health care to these post-op patients, and yielded positive results overall. The important aspect of this research was that it included patients in their care by giving them telehealth tools in their homes. With these tools, patients were empowered and able to participate in their care.
